Language & Literacy
Phonological & Phonemic Awareness
- Identify and produce rhymes; clap syllables in words.
- Blend and segment onset-rime (c-at → cat) and 2–3 phoneme words (CVC).
- Isolate beginning and ending sounds; introduce medial short vowel sounds.
Phonics & Decoding
- Letter–sound mastery for most consonants and short vowels (a, e, i, o, u).
- Decode CVC words (cat, map, sit) and common word families (-at, -an, -it).
- Introduce digraphs (sh, th, ch) later in the year as ready.
High-Frequency Words & Fluency
- Read and write a core set of high-frequency words (e.g., I, a, the, and, to, is, my, like, we, can).
- Develop phrased, expressive reading with predictable texts and rereads.
Comprehension & Oral Language
- Retell stories with beginning, middle, end; identify characters and settings.
- Ask and answer who/what/where questions; make simple predictions.
- Build vocabulary through read-alouds, conversation, and picture discussion.
Writing & Conventions
- Print upper- and lowercase letters with legible formation and spacing.
- Compose simple sentences with capital at the start and period at the end.
- Label drawings; use inventive spelling while applying known phonics.
Mathematics
Counting & Cardinality
- Rote count to 100 by ones; count to 100 by tens (as ready).
- Count objects to tell how many; recognize that the last number named tells the total.
- Compare numbers (greater than, less than, equal to) within 10.
Operations & Algebraic Thinking
- Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, drawings, or stories.
- Fluent addition and subtraction within 5; work within 10 using concrete models.
- Decompose numbers ≤10 in more than one way (e.g., 7 = 4 + 3 = 5 + 2).
Number & Base Ten
- Read, write, and represent numbers 0–20; connect numerals to quantities.
- Understand teen numbers as “ten and some more.”
Geometry
- Identify and describe 2D shapes (circle, triangle, square, rectangle, hexagon) and basic 3D shapes (cube, cone, sphere, cylinder).
- Analyze and compare shapes; create composite shapes from simple parts.
Measurement & Data
- Compare objects: longer/shorter, heavier/lighter, more/less.
- Classify objects and count how many in each category; simple picture graphs.
Science & Nature
Scientific Practices
- Observe, ask questions, make predictions, and record with drawings/charts.
- Use simple tools: magnifiers, droppers, rulers (non-standard units acceptable).
Life Science
- Basic needs of plants and animals; simple life cycles (seed → plant; egg → chick).
- Habitats and how living things meet their needs.
Earth & Space Science
- Weather patterns and seasons; dress and safety for conditions.
- Sunlight and shade; day/night observations.
Physical Science
- Pushes and pulls; how motion changes with strength and direction.
- Properties of materials (flexible/rigid, rough/smooth, sink/float explorations).
Social Studies & Civics
Self, Family, and Community
- Roles at home and school; classroom jobs and helping behaviors.
- Community helpers and how they serve.

- Simple maps and locations (home, school, neighborhood).
- Celebrations and traditions with respect for differences.

Self-Awareness & Self-Management
- Name feelings with more precision (proud, frustrated, worried).
- Use calming strategies: breathing, quiet space, ask for help.
- Set simple goals (“I will try three bites,” “I will write my name”).

Gross Motor
- Balance on one foot, hop, jump with two feet, skip or gallop as ready.

- Proper pencil grip; controlled tracing and copying of letters and numbers.
- Cut along lines and shapes with safety scissors; glue with precision.
Health & Safety
- Hand-washing, covering coughs/sneezes, personal space awareness.
- Recognize trusted adults; basic emergency routines (stay with group, listen).
Arts & Music
Visual Arts
- Use lines, shapes, and colors to express ideas; draw people with multiple parts.
- Experiment with collage, paint, and clay/dough for fine-motor development.
Music & Movement
- Keep steady beat; echo simple rhythms; sing age-appropriate songs.
- Creative movement to show story sequence or science concepts.
Technology Readiness
- Basic device care; log in with help; open/close apps or pages as guided.
