Compliance FAQs

Clear answers, state-friendly tools, and quick links—so you can focus on learning.

A Notice of Intent (NOI) is a short letter some states request when you begin homeschooling. It’s typically sent to your local district office or county superintendent. Use our universal NOI builder, then follow your state’s submission instructions.

Some states require tracking days or hours; others don’t. To keep things simple, log dates and minutes in the Attendance Log and use Reading & Work Logs for extra detail. Export anytime for schools or state reviewers.

Required subjects vary. Most families cover ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies—with electives added by interest. We’re publishing grade-band planners soon; for now, your dashboard courses + teacher guidance keep you aligned, and you can file summaries in the Records Center.

Some states ask for annual tests or a portfolio review. Your student dashboard already tracks assignments, grades, and GPA. Add reading/work logs, then export summaries from the Records Center. If a specific test is required, your principal guide can advise on options.

Download attendance, grade snapshots, and any requested work samples from the Records Center. If your district needs a withdrawal or re-entry letter, use our templates in Forms & Templates. Always confirm the receiving school’s checklist.

Some states require documentation when participating in public programs or activities. Keep health records with your family files. If your locality requires submission, store copies in your Records Center for easy access.

Access varies by state and district. Keep evaluations and plans in your Records Center. Your principal guide can help you coordinate services or referrals in your area.

Eligibility differs by state and district. Many require basic records (attendance/grades). Use the Records Center to share documentation if requested.

Some places have first-year deadlines and occasional renewals. Check your state overview and add reminders to your own calendar.

Online public schools are still public schools and follow district rules. DBM is a private homeschooling partner: we support parents/guardians and students with teachers, coursework, and records while you remain the homeschool decision-maker per your state.

Attendance logs, grade/GPA snapshots, reading/work logs, and sample work are common. Export these from the Records Center. If they ask for something specific, we’ll help you prepare it.
